We will look for volunteers to bring cookies, and Magan has most of the supplies needed.

October 2011 JCNA minutes
November 8th, 2011Joslyn Castle Neighborhood Association
General Meeting 10/10/11
Cornerstone Mansion
Board members in attendance: Margie Magnuson, Magan Smith, Linda Hughes, Jim Winston, Julie Mireau, Jama Samiev, Rob Corsaro, Marnie Corsaro
SPEAKERS: Nano Little, Executive Director, and Jim Fogarty, board member, Joslyn Castle Trust.
* The Joslyn Castle Trust (JCT) agreement with the State of Nebraska gave the JCT the first opportunity to buy the Castle if it came up for sale. This opportunity rose in July of 2010, and transfer of the property to the JCT was finalized in December 2010. The JCT paid $100,000 in addition to the approximately $4 million it had put into the property.
* The JCT is funded by event rentals, sponsored events, memberships, grants, tours, and revenue from renting space in the Carriage House to businesses. For example, Jim Fogarty & Associates is on the ground floor; Sterling Financial is on the 2nd floor, and the Small Business Association of the Midlands is in the basement.
* JCT has a facilities person who cares for the buildings and grounds.
* The Trust’s long-range plan for the property is to restore the green house (which was destroyed in the 1913 tornado) and the driveways as well as areas of the grounds.
*.JCT has downsized its board, and expanded its committees to include non-board members and is adding a guild..
* Upcoming and recurring JCT events at the Castle include “Literary Faces,” “Castle Consort” concerts, a “Turkey Trot Run” on Thanksgiving Day, and the upcoming “Magic at Midtown” condo tour.
* It is important to restore the greenhouse (also known as the Palmery) to be a major event space. The JCT also plans to build a replica of the original summer house, which was a screened-in gazebo.
* The Trust is also building an endowment fund for restoration and maintenance.
* The JCNA can help the Trust in promoting knowledge of the Castle and its activities. The JCT has joined the JCNA and will put an ad in the JCNA newsletter.
For more information about the JCT and its activities, or to see its newsletter, visit their website: www.joslyncastle.com
OLD BUSINESS:

- The CVS liquor license goes before the Liquor Board this month. No change in the city recommendation is expected.
- Criminal activity: the park has seen less activity lately. Rob and Marnie Corsaro have noted more prostitutes activity around 38th-40th and Dodge. Sara Howard noted loitering in alley behind the 100 block of north 40th St. Julie noted there have been incidents of dogs being stolen or turned loose from yards. There have also been incidents of trucks broken into to get tools, etc.
NOTE: it is important for residents to make a connection with their neighbors as part of crime prevention.

None of the members are currently receiving those benefits.
