via Ronald G. Abdouch, Executive Director, The Neighborhood Center for Greater Omaha:
As you might know, Omaha City Councilman Jim Vokal has proposed an ordinance that is aimed at strengthening our city’s graffiti law. It will increase penalties to those who commit graffiti crimes and will increase penalties on businesses that sell spray paint to minors (that are not accompanied by parents/guardians). There will be a public hearing on the ordinance March 4, 2008 at the Council chambers, 1819 Farnam Street in the afternoon. Our association will support this ordinance and will attend the hearing. Our community has experienced thousands of dollars in damage caused by graffiti recently. You can help! Please read below and take action. Then forward this message to your neighbors and friends and other Omahans who care about fighting this crime.
You can:
- Attend the hearing. Contact Marilyn Hooper, 333-0187 or hooper@tconl.com, if you are able to attend. Car pools will be available.
- Send an e-mail to each council member. Keep it short. Express support for the graffiti ordinance. Add any personal comments. (In the “Subject” box, write “Please support increased penalties for graffiti” or anything that indicates your position–in case the councilman does not have time to read your message.)
