You Can Help! This is a project to help educate citizens in Omaha that they should not throw materials down city storm drains. JCNA will be tackling the storm drains by sweeping up trash, adhering “No Dumping” discs, and placing fliers in neighbor’s doorways. We will meet at the corner of 49th and California on Saturday, May 23 at 10 AM as long as it is above 60 degrees, and not raining.

Joslyn Castle Neighborhood resident Rachel Ziegler, and students of The Kent Bellows Studio and Center for Visual Arts invite neighbors, friends and family to a neighborhood Ice Cream Social and Portrait Session. The event will take place on the front lawn of 4404 Chicago Street, from 5pm to 8pm on Saturday, April 11th. The intent of this project is to have fun, eat ice cream and get to know our neighbors.
The portraits will be facilitated by students of The Kent Bellows Studio and Center for Visual Arts, under the advisement of Rachel Ziegler, current Mentor for The Kent Bellows Artist-In-Residence program. These students are: Alex Carlson, senior at Central High School; Rebecca Noddle, senior at Westside High School and Emma Headley, senior at North High School. The students will utilize photography, video and sound recordings to capture portraits of the neighborhood throughout the evening. These recordings will become a final art piece, featured in The Kent Bellows Studio Exhibition on Friday, May 15th.
About the Kent Bellows Studio and Center for the Visual Arts
The Kent Bellows Studio and Center for the Visual Arts provides ground-breaking educational opportunities to Omaha’s young artists by partnering with the local arts community. The education programming at The Kent Bellows Studio is founded upon the perspective that we all possess the power to think and act creatively when we are given the necessary balance of freedom and support. In order to develop this nurturing environment, these students participate in hands-on, authentic art experiences while receiving opportunities for one-on-one mentoring and peer mentoring. The Kent Bellows Studio currently holds classes in the Bemis Underground, but plans to move into their newly renovated studio space in the fall of 2009.
